Technical Training - Overview

The Technical Training Department aims to ensure a high uniform level of civil aviation knowledge throughout the EASA system.

Foremost it provides and organises training for EASA staff. This is mainly done using Agency resources, since the Agency is a centre of expertise in its fields of competence.

Not all staff training needs can be met through internal expertise. In specific technical fields the department procures training either directly or through a multi-annual call for expression of interest (N0 2007/S 82-099501 "Provision of Technical Training Services for the European Aviation Safety Agency", under ref. EASA/2007/CEI/01) and specific tenders and contracts.

The Agency does not provide training directly to the industry; however please refer to the e-examination below.

In addition, the Technical Training Department is also able to provide training to NAA staff. Examples of courses include Standardisation Inspection, Third Country Authority training, or regulatory update training on subjects such as Fuel Tank Safety and Permit to Fly. For training outside of the Agency's obligations, charges are applied according to ED decision 2008/068/A and 2008/122/A.

EASA develops and publishes on its website free of charge detailed training syllabi for EU aviation legislation training.

In this context, the Agency has also developed and maintains an e-examination system through its website, based on a question database. This is offered on a voluntary basis to students of training organisations or self-trained students through a system of established examination centres, providing the opportunity to receive a certificate. The costs related to the implementation and running of the e-examination system are recovered from the examination centres through charges. The unit price is established according to ED decision 2008/006/E.
